Presentation
At two years of age, Mathéo was making his first rounds in an electric car in his home neighbourhood. His first kart was a Puffo 50cc which he was driving at the age of three and in which he would win his first trophees. From 2004 through 2006, in the Mini category, he would continue to compete as well as to learn kart driving skills through the precious coaching and advice of Gabriel Orsetti. In 2007, he moved up to the Super-Mini category and Mini-Rok in which he won the Swiss title in 2008 with the help of mechanic Anthony Crosilla and the motoriste Gianni Sava. As soon as he entered the Junior catergory in 2009, he won his second Swiss title and experienced his first single-seater test at the age of 12. In 2010, besides continuing with karting competition, Mathéo also pursued his single-seater preparation twice per month in France.
Every winter, his training continued in indoor karting where he worked on endurance and consistency. For four years, Mathéo could now count on Manu Dufaux, his sports coach, to improve his physical condition with a daily training programme.
A the age of 14, Mathéo ‘got involved’ with Jenzer Motorsports in the Formula Abarth China in Asia. With 11 races, 8 victories, 1 podium and 10 pole positions, Mathéo’s impressive performance allowed him to finish first in the championship.
Now at 15 years old, Mathéo participated in the International Forumla 2 Championship. With 16 races, 2 victories, 7 podiums and 4 pole positions, Mathéo ended up second in the final standings. At year’s end, Mathéo was designated as Rookie of the Year 2012 by Autosports Award.
After a dormant year, the young driver was again active in the GP3 Series competition in 2014 and 2015 with Jenzer Motorsport. The championship races took place alongside the GP2, Porsche Cup and F1 races, and were aired every weekend on Eurosport. After those great performances in Formula 2, Mathéo got the chance to take part in the WEC (World Endurance Championship) for the last two races of the year in Shanghai and Bahrain with the swiss team Rebellion-Racing. This adventure will continue in 2016 with Rebellion-Racing in the World Endurance Championship.
At the end of the 2016 season which was extremely victorious and full of emotions, Mathéo became world endurance champion in LMP1 privateer with the team Rebellion-Racing. They have won 7 races on 9 in total with two 3rd places in the general standings.
